Charlton Athletic went third in the Barclays Women’s Championship with a 1-0 home win over Lewes on Wednesday evening.

Amber-Keegan Stobbs’ early opportunity for Lewes was well saved by Sian Rogers, before the Addicks had a rush of chances.

Sophie Whitehouse denied Melissa Johnson when one-on-one with the keeper, who kept out Beth Roe’s corner before Elisha N’Dow wasn’t quite able to get a final touch.

Rogers made a fine save to thwart Rhian Cleverly, before Freda Ayisi’s deflected strike 18 minutes from time proved decisive.

Lewes could have levelled in added time but Emma Thompson fired wide.

Charlton go to second-placed London City Lionesses on Sunday, trailing them by two points.
