London City back up to second in Barclays Women’s Championship

London City Lionesses beat Birmingham City 3-2 to return to second place in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Shanade Hopcroft netted two first-half free kicks for London City Lionesses, Quinn replying in-between by Birmingham City’s Louise Quinn. The hosts extended their lead from a 69th-minute penalty, Hopcroft completing her hat-trick. Louise Quinn headed a second for the visitors but not until added time, as the Lionesses went second on goal-difference.

Penalties were exchanged as Emily Simpkins converted for Charlton and Beth Hepple equalised inside 20 minutes for Durham. Five minutes before the break, Simpkins fed Melissa  Johnson whose strike went in off the post, lifting the Addicks to fourth place at the end of the day.

Ellie Leek made the breakthrough for Blackburn against Sunderland in the last ten minutes or so. The single goal saw Rovers move up two places to sixth.
