Swansea City had gone second with a 3-1 win over Abergavenny on Wednesday evening, despite the hosts initially taking the lead.
Cardiff City FC took no time stamping their authority on the game with Cardiff Met, Rhianne Oakley opening the scoring after 10 minutes and getting her brace on half time, heading home a Seren Watkins’ corner. Danielle Broadhurst added a third for the Bluebirds in the 50th minute, Met’s Erin Murray later slotting home a penalty after Ellie Preece was brought down in the box.
At the other end of the table, Aberystwyth beat Barry Town United to leapfrog them into sixth place. Emily Thomas, Shauna Chambers and Rebecca Mathias all got on the scoresheet for Aber within the first 20 minutes, Ffiona Evans adding a fourth five before half time. Mackenzie Olden pulled one back for Barry but Amy Jenkins made it 5-1.
There was action in mid-table, with TNS hosting Pontypridd in the battle for a place in the Championship league in Phase 2; Ponty in prime position on goal difference. TNS’s Emily Ridge got the first goal of the day after half an hour, Alison Witts levelling and then feeding Jasmine Turner to add a second five minutes later. However, TNS grabbed a last-minute equaliser from Isobel Redding’s header to make it 2-2.
