Cambridge City & Northampton Town Ladies new leaders

Cambridge City are new leaders of the Eastern League, while Northampton Town marked playing at Sixfields by beating Notts County 6-2 to go top of East Midlands Division 1 South.

Regional League Round-up, 16 September : 

EASTERN – Cambridge City ascend to summit

PREMIER – Cambridge City went top with a third straight win, 3-2 against Bedford, as Acle United lost the leadership following a 3-1 reverse at Royston Town. Harlow Town beat Colney Heath 4-1, Wymondham Town won 2-1 over AFC Sudbury with substitute Alice Ladbrooke among the goals, Brentwood Town’s Georgia Holdaway bagged a brace in a 3-0 result against AFC Dunstable and Peterborough Northern Star’s first victory came 5-0 at Haringey Borough where Cassie Steward contributed a couple.

ONE – Leaders Stevenage Reserves crashed 5-0 at Newmarket Town who had five different players on the scoresheet. Hutton went second with a 4-0 score at Hertford Town. Hatfield Peverel got off the mark as Christa Osman scored in a 1-1 tie with Hoddesdon Town Owls. Histon held St Ives Town 2-2 who had goalscorer Tierney Coulson sent off. King’s Lynn Town came through 5-3 at Ipswich Wanderers as Jodie Hopkins-Duckhouse hit a hat-trick.

EAST MIDLANDS – Four in a row for Foxes

PREMIER – Leicester City WFC DS are 5 points clear at the top having sunk Woodlands 7-0 with a brace each for Sian Johnson and Chantelle Amber. Two goals also for Donna McGuigan as second-placed Peterborough United beat Rise Park 3-1. Bethany Wilcockson got two goals in Mansfield Town’s 3-1 result at Leicester City Ladies. In the midweek matches substitute Angel Craig-Tapper scored as Leicester City WFC DS won 3-2 at Peterborough. Loughborough Students’ Grace Stanley got a hat-trick as hosts Eastwood were hit for six, Kettering Town and Leicester Ladies drew 2-2, as did Ollerton Town and Mansfield.

1 NORTH – An Alice Hayes equaliser for Lincoln Moorlands-Railway at home to Ilkeston Town was enough to send the hosts top. Hykeham Town ran out 7-2 winners at Retford United and Grimsby Borough made a winning start 2-0 at Sleaford Town.

1 SOUTH – Emma Dunmore featured with a four-goal haul as Northampton Town went top with a 6-2 defeat of Notts County. Oadby & Wigston got both goals in the game at Lutterworth Athletic, Abbi Morrall-Faulkner got all Desford’s four goals as they edged Thrapston Town 4-3, while Corby Town came from behind to win 3-1 at Loughborough Foxes Vixens with a Zoe Watkins treble.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Five-star Kent Football United 

PREMIER – Whyteleafe stayed top with a 2-0 win at Parkwood and Eastbourne Town went second after edging Aylesford 2-1. Kent Football United recovered from going behind early on at QPR Girls DS to win 5-1 as Rachel Stevens scored three. AFC Phoenix ran out 7-1 winners at Fulham where Saskia Philp and Raquel Arevalo both scored twice.

GREATER LONDON PREMIER – Ashford Town lead after winning 7-2 at Spurs DS including a couple by Lavana Neufville, Godalming Town also made it back-to-back wins by hitting Regents Park Rangers for six, Tamara Sidwell with three of them. Hackney’s Sarah Garlick got the only goal at Victoire whose Kylie Philp received two cautions. Colne Valley won 2-1 at Watford DS and New London Lionesses had a walkover at Hampstead.

SOUTH EAST COUNTIES PREMIER – Crawley Wasps Reserves have maximum points from three games after sending Saltdean United to a 5-1 defeat as Rosanne Fine scored twice. Ashford LFC put nine past Meridian with four for Rebecca Wyatt and three for substitute Abbey Davies. Sophie Humphrey’s double saw Worthing off to a winning 2-1 start at Newhaven and Lewes Foundation gained their first point with a Yasmin Church effort at Phoenix Sports.

NORTH EAST – Tinson treble sees Harrogate Town stay 100%

PREMIER – Harrogate Town have won their first two games, Sophie Tinson with a hat-trick in the 5-2 result at Wallsend BC. Ryton & Crawcrook Albion Tynedale sent Rotherham United home beaten 2-1 and Farsley Celtic won by a similar score at Castleford White Rose.

1 NORTH – Sunderland West End’s second victory came 5-1 at Chester le Street Town St. Cuthberts where Alexandra Ross and Kristen Whitfield got a couple each. Washington Association made a winning start 5-1 at Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves with four second-half goals, Abigail Phipps with two of them. Redcar Town’s first match saw them thrash Cramlington United 10-0, Jessica Round netting four.

1 SOUTH – Top of the table Barnsley DS hit Doncaster Belles for six, Ossett United have won two from two after a 7-2 success at Wakefield. Altofts had a 2-1 win over Harrogate Railway and York RI got two without reply against Sheffield Wednesday.

CUP – Boro Rangers won 3-1 at Prudhoe Town with a double by Abbie Phillips, Durham Cestria defeated Alnwick Town by the same score and Hartlepool United eliminated South Shields 1-0.

NORTH WEST – Stockport stay top

PREMIER – Stockport County’s 3-2 result at Penrith kept them top, FC United of Manchester got off to a flying start with a 7-0 scoreline against Fleetwood Town Wrens. Mossley Hill and Tranmere Rovers shared six goals, Wigan Athletic won 4-1 over Merseyrail and Accrington came away from Manchester Stingers 2-1 victors.

1 NORTH – Blackpool bagged six goals in recording a third win on the trot at Burscough Dynamo. Cammell Laird put four past Preston North End, Carlisle United were 7-1 winners over Penwortham Town. Leigh RMI 1-4 Workington Reds ran out 4-1 winners at Leigh RMI, Blackburn CSC won 2-1 at Bury and Crosby tied 2-2 at home to Morecambe Reserves.

1 SOUTH – Warrington Wolverines’ 3-1 result at Northwich Vixens was their second win in as many games, Chester stormed to an 8-0 victory away to City of Liverpool and Didsbury won 3-1 against Wythenshawe Amateurs.

SOUTHERN – Saints make double-figure start

PREMIER – AFC Bournemouth, Winchester City Flyers and Woodley United all have six points from two games, the Cherries brushing off Warsash Wasps 4-0 set up by a Meg Vella first-half brace, the Flyers won 4-2 when facing Ascot United and Woodley edged Barton Rovers 2-1. There were big opening game wins for Southampton FC Women and Oxford City, the Saints sending Newbury to an 11-0 defeat with four-goal hauls by Chloe Newton and Harriet Eastham, while City sank New Milton Town 8-0.

ONE – A Millie Bilcliff hat-trick saw Wargrave send leaders Southampton WFC DS to a 3-1 defeat. Abingdon United 2-3 Moneyfields’ second win was 3-2 at Abingdon United with Rebecca Bath netting twice, Wycombe Wanderers doubled their win tally 6-0 at the expense of Basingstoke Town, Christina O’Connor claiming a hat-trick. Alton saw off visitors Sandhurst Town 3-1 and Shanklin finished goalless with Eastleigh.

SOUTH WEST – Third straight win by Bishops

PREMIER – Bishops Lydeard have not dropped a point in three games after downing Downend Flyers 11-1, where Holly Miller netted four and Kayleigh Riley three. Exeter City’s 6-1 defeat of Portishead brought three goals for Georgia Barbour-Gresham, Keynsham Town Development posted a 5-2 result at Torquay United, Marine Academy Plymouth took the points 1-0 at Callington Town, as did Middlezoy at Forest Green Rovers with Anusia Rourke’s effort.

1 EASTERN – Cheltenham Town DS are goal-difference ahead of AEK Boco at the top and have a game in hand after battling back to win 3-1 at Almondsbury, while AEK got both goals at FC Chippenham. Swindon Town DS started in style, 7-1 at Oldland Abbotonians with three from Helen Diaz-Butcher.

1 WESTERN – Shannon Workman led the way with a hat-trick as Plympton won for a third match running, 8-2 against Exeter & Tedburn Rangers. Weston Super Mare won 2-0 at Feniton with an Ellison Roberts double,  Plymouth Argyle Reserves won 5-3 over St Agnes with Gabi Alphous twice on target, Bideford’s 4-0 win at Bude Town included two for Bethany Ellis, Pen Mill let a 2-0 lead slip in drawing 2-2 at home with Weston Mendip.

WEST MIDLANDS – Narrowest of leads for Redditch

PREMIER – Redditch United lead only on goals scored from three other sides, following up a 3-2 home midweek defeat to Leafield Athletic with a 1-o win at Worcester United. Coventry Sphinx won 3-1 over Crusaders as did  Stockingford AA Pavilion against Lye Town and Leafield won again, 2-1 at Sutton Coldfield. Elsewhere, Goldenhill Wanderers drew 3-3 at home to Coundon Court.

1 NORTH – AFC Telford United, Shifnal Town and Leek Town all recorded second victories with five goals on their travels, 5-3 v Port Vale, 5-1 v Shrewsbury Town and 5-1 v Wyrley respectively. Sandwell won the other match 3-1 over Florence.

1 SOUTH – Sedgley & Gornal United’s 8-1 defeat of Solihull Sporting was their third win in a row. Solihull United doubled their points 3-0 at Stourbridge, likewise Rugby Town, 7-0 winners over Leamington. Kidderminster Harriers kicked off by crushing Coventry City 10-0, while Kingfisher defeated Droitwich Spa 4-2.
