Bristol Rovers and Luton go top of Women’s Regional Leagues

There were two changes at the top off the Regional Leagues with Bristol Rovers and Luton Town taking over in the South West and Eastern respectively.

EASTERN – Hatters head the table

Premier – Luton Town regained the leadership with a 3-0 defeat of Royston Town, as Haringey Borough beat Stevenage by the only goal. Bowers & Pitsea beat Bedford 2-1, Needham Market’s 3-2 defeat of AFC Sudbury was aided by a Molly Hall brace, Wroxham were 2-0 winners over Colney Heath.

1 North – Biggleswade United stayed top on goal-difference after a 5-1 win at Yaxley Phoenix, AFC Dunstable had the larger victory though, 9-1 at Haverhill Rovers where Gemma Whitchurch hit six and Mollie Knox three. St Ives Town’s Annie Posnett netted twice for a 4-2 result at Newmarket Town, Wootton Blue Cross are off the foot of the tale at the expense of Fakenham Town whom they edged 2-1.

1 South – The top three all won, Barking 7-1 at Grays Athletic, Hutton 2-0 at Billericay Town Devs, Lawford 5-1 over Cheshunt with a Daisy Canny hat-trick. East Bergholt United came out on top 6-5 at Wodson Park.

EAST MIDLANDS – Grimsby Town top after derby victory

Premier – Leaders Notts County won 3-0 at Rotherham United, Shonique Barnes on target late in the first half with early second half goals by Gayle Summer and Emily Stretton sealing the points. The chasing pack all won away; Chesterfield with a Georgina Williams’ effort at Basford United, Lincoln United 4-0 versus Arnold Eagles, Mansfield Town 3-1 against Anstey Nomads.

1 Central – Dronfield Town defeated Notts County Devs 5-2, Ilkeston Town took second spot from Nottingham Trent University after sending them to a 2-0 reverse, Asfordby Amateurs are third following a 5-1 win over Sherwood, while West Bridgford edged Mansfield Hosiery Mills 3-2.

1 North – Grimsby Town went top with a 5-0 derby victory at Grimsby Borough, with Gainsborough Trinity going down 3-0 at home to Sleaford Town, for whom Jade Baker got a double. SJR Worksop’s 2-1 win at Lincoln United Devs came with Deysha Pressley’s brace.

1 South – Kettering Town drew 1-1 with Northampton Town Devs in the top-two clash, Leicester City LFC put three past Loughborough Foxes Vixens, Thrapston Town saw off Peterborough United Devs 3-2 with an Amelia Boddington double and winner from substitute Morgan Smart.

League Cup – Ilkeston Town go to Notts County in the quarter-finals, having won 2-0 at Leicester City LFC in  midweek.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Ashford United win despite red card

1 South – Montpelier Villa’s Saskia Taylor-Doyle bagged both goals to beat Steyning Town 2-1, who had substitute Jasmine Godden dismissed.

League Cup 3rd Rd – Dartford defeated Millwall Lionesses 3-1 as Paris Smith struck two from the bench, Sutton United’s Lily Dent got both their goals for a 2-1 victory at Brentford. Dulwich Hamlet eliminated Ebbsfleet United 2-0, Sport London E Benfica showed Aylesford to a 2-1 exit, Saltdean United won 4-0 at Hackney. Hastings v Fulham was abandoned following a serious injury, with United’s Izzy Burt sadly suffering a snapped patellar tendon.

League Trophy 2nd Rd – Ashford United went through 2-0 at Bexhill United despite Ronni Jeffrey’s red card, as substitute Emily-May Diamond sealed the win. Clapton sub Marta Casanovas got the only goal against AFC Acorns, watched by a crowd of 268. Newhaven won 2-1 after extra-time at New London Lionesses, Richmond Park knocked out Herne Bay by the same score, Dulwich Hamlet Reserves defeated Denham United 3-1, Leatherhead progressed 5-2 away to Maidstone United, Whyteleafe had a walkover against Cray Valley.

NORTH EAST – Norton’s Maddie Myers hit six 

Premier – There were 38 goals in only five games, led by Chester le Street Town’s dozen against Harrogate Town, Laura Hockaday with four of them. Sunderland West End’s 3-1 win at South Shields enabled Wallsend BC to rise to second with a 6-2 beating of Blyth Town that featured an Eleanor Regan treble. Wakefield’s Neve Renwick hit three in an 18-minute spell for a 6-3 success at Redcar Town, Alnwick Town took the points 4-1 at Hull United.

1 North – Wallsend BC Reserves’ lead after a 2-0 result at Thornaby, Washington having drawn 1-1 at Spennymoor Town. Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves’ Maddie Myers went goal mad with six during the 8-4 goalfest against Bishop Auckland. Christine Murray’s hat-trick helped Gateshead to a 5-2 victory at Hartlepool Pools Youth, West Allotment Celtic’s Chloe Flannaghan put away two of their three at Guisborough Town, Hartlepool United and Chester le Street United ended one apiece.

1 South – Farsley Celtic Juniors pegged back leaders Handsworth in a 2-2 tie, Barnsley FC Ladies did’t take advantage as visitors Ossett United held them 4-4. Abby Watkinson’s goal was enough for Millmoor to see off Sheffield Wednesday, Altofts hit hosts Harworth Colliery for six and Sheffield United Foundation sank Ripon City 4-1.

NORTH WEST – Runcorn win top-two clash 

Premier – Leaders Curzon Ashton got the only goal at lowly Mossley Hill Athletic, Salford City Lionesses’ 6-3 beating of Blackburn CSC put them second. Fleetwood Town Wrens won 1-0 at Tranmere Rovers, while it was goalless between West Didsbury & Chorlton and Crewe Alexandra.

1 North – Penrith’s Sarah Smith contributed a hat-trick to a 7-2 win at Penwortham Town that put them third, Accrington Stanley beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0.

1 South – Runcorn Linnets knocked Bury AFC off the top with a 3-2 away win over them, Poulton Vics won 2-1 against Warrington Wolves.

Argyle Sports Kit Plate – 1st Round ties saw Workington Reds win 2-1 at Chorley Devs with the decider by Sophie Birkett, plus 5-1 victories for Chester at Carlisle United and Preston North End over Morecambe. In the 2nd Round, Darwen defeated Altrincham 2-1 away, FC United of Manchester hit Sir Tom Finney for six and Blackpool had a walkover to the quarter-finals against Northwich Vixens.

SOUTHERN – Ascot knock league leaders out of Cup

1 North – Woodley United replaced Milton United in first with a 7-0 sinking of Caversham United, May Hamblin getting three goals. Penn & Tylers Green played out a 0-0 draw with Long Crendon.

1 South – Abbey Rangers sent second-placed Chichester City to a 3-0 defeat, Gemma Bennett’s 80th-minute winner gave Rushmoor a 3-2 result over Selsey Devs that put them third.

League Cup 2nd Rd – Ascot United reached the quarter-finals with a 2-1 result at league leaders Abingdon United, Hayley Cruickshank netting twice. Bournemouth Sports beat Abingdon Town 3-2, Eversley & California edged Winchester City Flyers 2-1 as Joanne Harfield got their crucial second. AFC Stoneham’s Lauren Harper got the sole goal at Badshot Lea, Wycombe Wanderers went through 5-1 at Milton United where there was a hat-trick for Freya Harris, while Eastleigh won 3-1 versus Woking.

SOUTH WEST – Bristol Rovers go top on goal-difference 

Premier – Bristol Rovers’ 4-0 result at Poole Town put them top on goal-difference from Forest Green Rovers, who were held 0-0 at home by Liskeard Athletic. Sherborne Town suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Bishops Lydeard, allowing Torquay United up to third after their 4-0 win at Royal Wootton Bassett Town where Esme Kilburn-Thompson got three goals. Warminster Town were the only hosts to score but let slip a 2-0 half-time lead, as Ilminster Town won 3-2 aided by Abigail Carslake’s double.

1 East – Pucklechurch Sports netted nine at Middlezoy in taking over the leadership from Frome Town, Lilly Farr and Sophie Sweet with three apiece.

1 North – Oldland Abbotonians lead after a 2-1 win at Downend Flyers, St Vallier also defeated SGS Olveston United 2-1.

1 West – Sticker’s Tori Marks claimed all their goals in a 4-2 win at Feniton, Saltash United ran out 5-0 winners at Budleigh Salterton, Sam Drewery scored half Marine Academy Plymouth’s dozen against Bideford.

WEST MIDLANDS – Coventry Sphinx top with ninth straight win

Premier – Coundon Court got off the mark when holding Shrewsbury Town 3-3, Lichfield City beat Burton Albion 3-1, Solihull Sporting sank Redditch United 6-0.

1 North – Tamworth edged a seven-goal thriller against Coventry City with a Catherine Harris hat-trick, Walsall Wood won 4-1 over Port Vale with three for Natasha Baptiste but two cautions for Tayler Davies, Lichfield City Reserves left Wyrley as 5-1 victors.

1 South – Coventry Sphinx matched Knowle’s nine straight wins when hitting Long Itchington 6-0, to go top on goal-difference. Bewdley Town beat Rugby Town 5-1, Droitwich Spa defeated Rugby Borough 4-1.

Premier Cup – Crusaders and Kidderminster Harriers are into the quarter-finals, with wins over Lye Town (2-1) and Sutton Coldfield Town (1-0) respectively.

Division 1 Cup – AFC Telford United put six past Kingfisher in the first round, Knowle won their second round tie with Worcester City Devs 3-2.
