Everton head coach Brian Sorensen has urged for patience after the Toffees’ slow start to the Women’s Super League season.

With injuries disrupting the chance of any early-season momentum, Sorensen insists Everton are focused on progress and consistency as they prepare to face Aston Villa.

Everton head coach Brian Sorensen calls for patience

Everton currently sit tenth in the table ahead of their visit to Aston Villa. After beating Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield on the opening weekend, the Toffees have failed to win their last five WSL matches.

Sorensen made it clear in his pre-match press conference that league position is not a concern at this stage and that success will be judged over the full campaign.

He said: “For me, there’s no panic; it’s still so early in the season. Let’s see where we are at when we get to May but for now, it’s just about working hard, making sure that we get the details right and getting better at what we want to be better at.”

Sorensen also underlined how the absence of key players has affected the team’s rhythm.

“It’s a process and we are working on a lot of things, trying to get things right with a new team,” Sorensen said.

“I’ve seen progress and it’s just about building on that. It’s been challenging with all of the injuries and not having any consistency in player selection.

“Hopefully, we are moving on an upward spiral now rather than down and we get people back, so that we can build on that consistency.”

Everton hope to move ahead of Aston Villa

Despite their tough start, Everton could move ahead of Aston Villa with a victory this weekend.

Villa though have played one game fewer due to the postponement of their clash with Liverpool.

He said: “We haven’t had the start that we would’ve liked but we are two points behind Villa. It’s fine margins but let’s just trust the process and make sure we put in a performance.”

Villa pose a stern test after losing just one of their opening five games this season.

Everton vs Aston Villa team news

Everton boss Brian Sorensen confirmed that Katja Snoeijs will miss Sunday’s 12pm kickoff against Aston Villa with an injury.

However, there is some positive news with Rion Ishikawa in contention to feature, while Hikaru Kitagawa and Ruby Mace have resumed full training.

Aston Villa’s squad will include Lucia Kendall, fresh off her first appearance for England. Sarina Wiegman, after England’s win over Australia, said she ‘deserved her start’ in the friendly victory.

Villa are without Jill Baijings, who suffered an ACL injury at the beginning of October.
