Brentford Women aiming for record crowd

Brentfoed aim for record crowd

Brentford FC Women entertain Sport London e Benfica on Sunday 6 March at Bedfont Sports Club and are hoping for a bumper turn out.

The fixture takes place on the Sunday before International Women’s Day and will form part of the Club’s plans to champion the achievements of girls and women throughout the Club.

It is free to attend and we are asking those interested in coming along to sign up online to register for updates and competitions we will be running around the match.

Brentford FC Women, led by former Bees’ defender, Karleigh Osborne, currently sit third in Division One North in the London & South East Regional Women’s League, level on points with league leaders Sutton United. Sport London e Benfica meanwhile are fifth in the table, seven points behind Brentford albeit with three games in hand.

Amy Crook, General Manager for Brentford FC Women, is looking forward to the game next month. “This is going to be a big day for the team and will be a great day out for Bees fans to come and show their support. Every season Brentford’s women’s teams are making progress and the squad have worked so hard this year.

“Our previous record crowd at Griffin Park was 400, so we are hopeful that we can smash that number next month. A big crowd on the day will give them such a boost.”

On the day, fans will also get the chance to see club mascots Buzz Bee and Buzzette in action and the Championship Play-Off trophy will also be on display for photo opportunities.

Sally Stephens, Fan & Community Relations Director, plays a key role behind the scenes to reinforce an ethos throughout the Club in which women are welcomed and respected equally. “We have a number of projects in the pipeline to promote the women’s game and to make Brentford Community Stadium as welcoming as possible to encourage more female supporters. We are throwing the doors open for this match on Sunday 6 March and encourage everyone to come along.

“For those who haven’t been before, it will be a great chance to get to know our women’s team, the players and to see another part of the Club. Girls’ football continues to grow in popularity as we’ve seen by the excellent attendance at the Football Development Centre run by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust for girls aged 6-15 years.

“Looking further ahead, we are also thrilled to be hosting the UEFA Women’s EUROs in July. Some of the top female footballers in the world will be competing in Brentford and that’s going to inspire our own players to strive for the next level and hopefully encourage many more women and girls to get involved.”

The Brentford FC Women v Sport London e Benfica match kicks off at 3pm at Bedfont Sports Ground with gates opening at 1.30pm.

Fans interested in attending should register for free here.
