Blackburn Rovers went fourth on goal-difference in the FA WPL Northern Division, following the midweek 3-0 derby victory over Fylde, watched by a crowd of 156 at Bamber Bridge FC.

Rovers’ Lynda Shepheard shot wide from close range and Lagan Makin saw her near post effort turned out for a corner, before Fylde’s Alys Hinchliffe was denied by Blackburn goalkeeper Danielle Hill.

The deadlock was broken on 33 minutes when Makin cut the ball back to Natasha Flint, who beat her marker and fired low into the net.

Shepherd was thwarted by a diving save from Alexandra Brooks and Fylde then went close to an equaliser before half-time but the cross by Olivia Wilkes was headed wide by Jenna Carroll.

On the hour mark, Natasha Fenton hit the Fylde side-netting and then the visitors’ Sophie Charlton had an effort turned away by Hill.

The lead was only doubled with 9 minutes left, as Jess Holbrook capped a neat move by bending the ball round the keeper.

A third goal was added 3 minutes from time, Holbrook’s corner nodded in by Shepherd.
