A stoppage-time goal from late substitute Farah Crompton was needed to give Blackburn Rovers their first win of 2023.

Crompton only came on after 86 minutes but made the breakthrough for a victory over visitors Lewes, also ensuring Rovers reached their best ever Barclays Women’s Championship points tally with a game to go.

Rovers keeper Alex Brooks had to make a fine early save from Ellie Mason but the decisive moment arrived at the death, with Megan Hornby providing the assist for a 1-0 win.

The result lifted Rovers to tenth place on 20 points, Lewes remaining seventh on 26 ahead of the last round of Championship fixtures this Sunday.
