Birmingham City went top of the Barclays Women’s Championship with a late penalty at Sheffield United on Friday evening.

The Blues lead the table on goal-difference from Charlton Athletic but from a game more, while the Blades are still in search of a first point after six matches.

Neve Herron had City ahead after only three minutes, flicking in Christie Harrison-Murray’s corner at the front post.

Ellen Molloy got Sheffield back on level terms midway through the half, beating several defenders and firing into the bottom corner.

With six minutes of the 90 remaining, Simone Magill converted from the penalty spot after Louise Quinn had been brought down in the box.
