Birmingham City won 4-0 at Reading to move within four points of Barclays Women’s Championship leaders Sunderland, with a game in hand.

Claudia Walker hit the post early on but played a part in the opening goal, winning possession before Lily Agg found Jade Moore who fired home.

Reading went close to equalising when Esther Mayi-Kith played in Madison Perry but the forward’s effort was blocked by Gemma Lawley.

Libby Smith was denied by the woodwork but doubled the lead with a looping effort over goalkeeper Emily Orman, having been picked out by Neve Herron following a through ball from Lucy Thomas.

Agg charged down an attempted clearance from Orman to backheel the ball in for 3-0 before the hour mark, Herron’s cross saw Agg head into the net to get her second goal of the evening.

Although the result sees Birmingham still in fifth place, they narrow the gap on their title rivals while the Royals remain just two points above the relegation zone.
