FC Barcelona Women’s team were declared champions of Spain’s top tier – Primera Iberdrola – after a decision to end the season was ratified on Friday.
Barca had led the table from defending champions Atletico Madrid by nine points with as many games to go and both will know enter the UWCL in 2020-21. The pair are still due to meet in the current season’s quarter-finals after clubs this week agreed to complete the competition when restrictions allow.
It was a fifth title for the Catalan side, matching the achievement of Atletico, while the the Copa de la Reina semi-finals in which Barcelona face Sevilla will be played at the beginning of next season.
Eighteen clubs will compete in the top tier in 2020-21, with Eibar and CD Santa Teresa promoted but no teams relegated, sparing Espanyol in particular, who had looked doomed to the drop a dozen points adrift.
