Aston Villa leapfrogged Leicester City and went seventh in the Barclays Women’s Super League with a Friday night win away to the Foxes.

Rachel Daly got the only goal of the game, firing Villa into a sixteenth-minute lead inside Janina Leitzig’s near post, after her initial attempt was blocked by a defender.

Leitzig prevented Alisha Lehmann from soon doubling the lead, while Shannon O’Brien’s diving header forced a save from Villa’s Daphne van Domselaar.

The Dutch keeper denied Yuka Momiki after the break, also thwarting Deanne Rose late on with Ava Baker on the follow-up but Sarah Mayling there to clear off the line.

Lewes sign full back Lois Heuchan
