Arsenal overtake Chelsea to top Deloitte Women’s Football Money League

Arsenal women's money league

Arsenal have overtaken Chelsea to top the latest Deloitte Women’s Football Money League rankings.

The Women’s Super League dominated the rankings, which is ordered by the amount of revenue generated for the financial year ending in 2025.

More than half of the teams in the top 15 are from the WSL. However, the rankings do not include teams in countries, including the United States, Australia and Sweden, where the figures were not made available to Deloitte.

How Arsenal overtook Chelsea in the women’s money league

Arsenal finished ahead of Chelsea in the latest Deloitte Women’s Football Money League standings, mainly thanks to their superior matchday revenue.

The Gunners generated £6 million in matchday revenue, compared to Chelsea’s £3.1m. Chelsea brought in the highest commercial revenue at £16.5m, compared to Arsenal’s £14m.

The Blues also generated the most broadcast revenue at £2.3m, surpassing the Gunners’ £2m. Overall, the Gunners recorded £22.2m in revenue, roughly £200,000 more than Chelsea.

Arsenal’s revenues increased by 43% from the previous year. It is no surprise that Arsenal’s matchday revenue was significantly higher than that of any other team, with the Gunners recording the highest average WSL attendance for the 2024-25 season.

The Gunners averaged over 28,000 fans for home matches across the season, topping 35,000 fans on five separate occasions.

Chelsea were the second-best watched team in the WSL, with an average of 9,426 fans.

Arsenal could record big numbers again in the next rankings, with the Gunners hosting the upcoming Women’s Champions Cup.

Which other WSL clubs made the top 15?

Manchester City and Manchester United rounded out the top five in the rankings, just behind Spanish giants Barcelona.

The current WSL league leaders totalled £11.2m in revenue, just £100,000 ahead of Manchester United. This is due to City taking £8.4m in commercial revenue, compared to United’s £7.9m.

Aston Villa are seventh, behind Real Madrid, with winless Liverpool placing eighth, ahead of Bayern Munich.

Tottenham completed the top 10, while Everton were the final team to make the top 15 in 13th, behind Eintracht Frankfurt and Paris Saint-Germain.

Villa, Liverpool and Tottenham had impressive commercial revenues worth £5.8m, £5,1m and £3.8m, respectively.

While there were strong numbers for those at the top of the list, Everton, despite making the top 15, made less revenue than they did the previous year.

Jennifer Haskel, knowledge and insight lead for Deloitte Sports Business Group said: “As average revenues reach a new high, there is a meaningful gap forming between the top-ranked clubs and the rest of the pack.”
