Katie Reid of Arsenal has withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Australia.
The 19-year-old was called up earlier in the month and was in line to make her first senior appearance for her country following a strong start to the season, despite the Gunners’ relatively disappointing results.
England head coach Sarina Wiegman had previously said that Reid’s arrival in the senior squad was “exciting”, adding: “She started playing for Arsenal very quickly this season and a couple of moments last season.
“She’s done good in the pathway too and I just see some very good things on the pitch with her, and I hope she can show that in our environment too.
“I’m excited to see her in our environment and how she relates to other players in the squad.”
Reid has sustained what is described as “a small injury” and will be replaced by Liverpool captain Grace Fisk, who has played for the Lionesses throughout the youth pathway but not yet made her senior debut.
Fisk, aged 27, signed for Liverpool in 2023. She previously played for West Ham United, having spent her college career in the USA with South Carolina Gamecocks and before that with Penn State Nittany Lions. She was with Millwall Lionesses for her youth development, and played for all England age groups up to and including the under-21s. She was called up to the 2020 SheBelieves Cup squad by Phil Neville but did not play.
Grace Clinton also withdraws
Grace Clinton of Manchester City has also pulled out of the squad and will stay with her club for rehabilitation.
Clinton last featured for her club when they beat Arsenal 3-2 at the Joie Stadium, but has since been absent – missing out on the weekend’s Subway Women’s League Cup trip to WSL2 side Newcastle United.
The 24-strong England squad meet at St George’s Park on Monday (20th October).
England squad changes for age groups
There have also been some changes in the youth squads. Ashanti Akpan and Lexi Lloyd-Smith have been called into the England under-23s in place of Ruby Mace and Maisie Symonds who have withdrawn with injury ahead of matches away to Germany and at home to Portugal.
And Amy Liddiard and Taylor Warren have been called into the under-19s, replacing Lily Clark and Sacha Lewis, who have withdrawn with injury.
