National Football Museum launch second half of their Crossing The Line exhibition: Game On, telling the story of women’s football in recent history.
This is the second half of the exhibition which explores the journey of the women’s game from the Victorian era to the present day.
Game On, tells the story of women’s football in today’s day and age. From grassroots to the professional game, and the impact of the Lionesses’ recent European glory.
The Second Half runs from Monday 17 October up until Sunday 11 December 2022.
Exhibition item highlights include: A matchday programme and Sylvia Gore’s cap from the first official women’s international fixture between England and Scotland in 1972, Alex Scott’s 2007 UEFA Champion’s League shirt, Keira Walsh’s Manchester City 2022 League Cup Final shirt, and various memorabilia from the 2022 Women’s Euro final at Wembley.
As part of the museum’s keenness for interactivity in their exhibitions and engaging with younger audiences, there is also a special programme of free, interactive workshops for fans of all ages.
Crossing The Line: Game On also premieres Play On: The Voice of Women’s Football, a specially commissioned short film which explores the rise of women’s football from 1970s to present day, including interviews with many of the games’ greatest heroes, from players to fans.
The museum is still collecting stories and objects from players, supporters, and communities across the globe, answering important questions and celebrating the perseverance, growth and increasing popularity of the women’s game.
The museum is asking visitors to get involved using the hashtag #CrossTheLine, contributing their thoughts and sharing their stories within the exhibition itself via social media.
Crossing the Line: Game on launches and is open to the public at the National Football Museum on Monday 17 October. This exhibition is part of the Inspired By England 2022 programme, and is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
