Chelsea overcame an early setback inflicted by West Ham United to win 3-1 in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
West Ham took a surprise lead with just over two minutes played, Kirsty Smith’s corner led to a free header into the back of the net from Dagny Brynjarsdottir.
Sam Kerr had strikes that smacked against either post, before Fran Kirby’s leveller through a crowded box five minutes before the break.
Chelsea turned the game round before the hour mark, Kerr with a close-range finish after West Ham failed to clear.
Moments later and Kateřina Svitková’s corner was headed home by Millie Bright, to give the hosts a two-goal cushion.
Lauren James won and took a penalty but it was not good enough to beat Hammers’ keeper Mackenzie Arnold.
