Chelsea went top of the Barclays Women’s Super League with six different scorers in their 6-0 victory away to Aston Villa.
Fran Kirby hit the crossbar for Chelsea, before Millie Bright opened the scoring on her 250th appearance for the Blues, Rachel Daly having cleared off the line from a Mia Fishel header.
In front of a crowd of 4,086, Daly put a golden chance for an equaliser over the top from a deflected cross.
Kirby doubled the visitors lead at the second attempt, Danielle Turner blocking the initial effort on the line.
Kirby had a goal ruled out for offside very early in the second half but it was 3-0 on 55 minutes, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd racing from the halfway line to shoot across keeper Daphne van Domselaar and into the net.
Two substitutes then got in on the act for Chelsea, Ashley Lawrence volleying in a Jessie Fleming cross from close range and Aggie Beever-Jones then tucking in the fifth when sent clear by Jelena Čanković.
Fleming’s deflected cross led to Niamh Charles netting the sixth and final goal, although Van Domselaar turned a Čanković ball onto the woodwork.
Emma Hayes side now sit three points above Manchester City from a game more, Carla Ward’s team suffering a fifth defeat in five which sends them bottom on goal-difference.
