France powered to a 5-1 UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Group D win over Italy, with Grace Geyoro hitting a first-half hat-trick.

Barbara Bonansea had a great early chance saved by the leg of keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, before France struck twice in the first dozen minutes.

Italy failed to deal with two crosses, allowing simple finishes by Geyoro and then Marie-Antoinette Katoto.

Katoto then headed against the post and was nearly presented the ball from the rebound.

It was 5-0 before the break as Delphine Cascarino rifled in from 20 yards, Geyoro rounded the keeper to get her second and completed her hat-trick when finding the far corner.

Italy could have been down to ten players in the second half but a VAR review saw Sara Gama’s red card overturned.

They then got a consolation, as Martina Piemonte made a quick impact from the bench, heading home on 76 minutes.
