Sweden secured a 2-0 win over Scotland Women with a late second goal in the friendly international at St Mirren FC’s SMISA Stadium.
Caroline Weir’s strike from outside the box was well dealt with by Jennifer Falk, before Sweden threatened with Filippa Angeldal’s wind-assisted shot which was tipped over by Jenna Fife and Rebecka Blomqvist later hit the crossbar.
Angeldal was again denied by Fife as she turned the shot round her post and the hosts somehow made it to the break on level terms, Erin Cuthbert eventually clearing after a succession of blocks in the box.
Sophie Howard saw her diving header blocked, Lucy Graham struck an effort just over the bar and a chance from a dangerous Weir free kick went begging.
Sweden made the breakthrough in style with 20 minutes left, Fridolina Rolfo’s thumping shot finding the top corner, before the unfortunate Howard conceded and own-goal from a cross.
Other friendly internationals featured a Brazil fightback to deny Australia victory.
Brazil came from two down to draw away to Australia, Clare Polkinghorne and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr on target before Erika and Debinha replied in the second half.
Canada edged New Zealand 1-0 with West Ham’s Adriana Leon netting the decider after 16 minutes.
Despite the USA drawing a blank in the first of their double-header with South Korea, they won the second 6-0. Lindsay Horan’s goal was the difference until Spurs’ Cho So-hyun conceded an own-goal on half-time. Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle and Lynn Williams added a goal apiece in the last quarter. The match marked an end to Carli Lloyd international career, after 316 caps and 134 goals.
