Fans, players and club officials got together at a celebration event for Barnsley’s female sporting role models on International Women’s Day at Oakwell Academy, on Sunday (8th March).
Barnsley Women’s Football Club and Totally Runable joined forces to celebrate the achievements of women and especially women in football with a special event after their FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division 1 match against Durham Cestria.
Director Natalie Jackson welcomed everyone, talking about her own role models – and then attendees were invited to nominate their role models…in some cases, getting to pose for a photo with them. One young fan, understandably, picked the Tykes’ captain Lucy Turner!
Author Carrie Dunn was also there, signing copies of her new book The Pride of the Lionesses, which features Barnsley Women.
