Rangers are first leaders of SWPL 1 in 2020 following their 3-0 victory over promoted Hearts. Megan Bell netted in either half and Kirsten Reilly completed the scoring on 79 minutes.
Hibernian needed a dramatic 94th-minute Rachel Boyle goal to edge Spartans, Carla Boyce providing the ball into the box as Hibs grabbed all three points at the death.
Motherwell began well in the top flight with a single-goal success at Forfar Farmington. Jordan McLintock scored on her first appearance, following up Katie Rice’s 85th-minute cross which the goalkeeper spilled.
Meanwhile, Glasgow City have brought in New Zealand defender Isobel Dalton from Brisbane Roar, with Nicola Docherty having moved to Rangers.
SWPL 2: Five-star debut for Dundee’s Danni McGinley
Hamilton Academical just missed out on going up last season but ended the opening day as SWPL 2 leaders with a 5-0 defeat of Stirling University.
There was quite some goal-fest as Dundee United defeated newcomers Boroughmuir Thistle 8-4 and some achievement too for Danni McGinley, whose five-goal haul came in her Dundee debut.
St Johnstone took the points 4-2 at Queens Park, Ellie May Cowie at the double as the visitors built a 4-0 lead, the Spiders then pulling two goals back.
Partick Thistle beat Glasgow Women 2-0 with a first-half double, Clare Docherty on target after only 3 minutes and Suzanne Mulvey with the second.
There was a late exchange of goals as Aberdeen’s Eilidh Shore cancelled out Kilmarnock’s lead obtained just 4 minutes earlier by Chloe Ponton.
