The AFC Women’s Football Committee agreed on Friday on the establishment of a AFC Pilot Women’s Club Championship for this November.
The committee met ahead of Saturday’s AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Thailand final today, in which Japan came from behind to beat North Korea 2-1. China also fought back to win 2-1 against Australia in the third place match.
The new competition had been recommended last year by the committee and considered ‘A vital step forward in women’s club football throughout the continent.’
The pilot edition, set to involve the champion clubs from Australia, China, Japan and South Korea, will be staged on a round-robin basis from 26 to 30 November 2019.
Further changes will see the AFC U-19 and U-16 Women’s Championships instead be for the U-20 and U-17 age-groups respectively.
