France and South Korea kicked off the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Friday evening, with a crowd of 45,261 at Parc des Princes witnessing a 4-0 victory for the host nation.
On top from the off, Les Bleues were in front inside 10 minutes through an Eugenie le Sommer finish from just outside the six-yard box following a ball by Amandine Henry.
Wendie Renard headed on a corner for Griedge Mbock Bathy to volley home but the latter was judged by VAR to be fractionally offside.
However, Renard scored twice herself with headers from flag-kicks in the last 10 minutes or so of the half.
South Korea did eventually have a shot at goal midway through the second half but Henry got a fourth goal for the French when running at the defence and curling a 20-yard strike inside the far post.
Norway and Nigeria play the second Group A game at 8pm (UK time) today but before that there’s Group B action with Germany v China (2pm) and Spain v South Africa (5pm).
