Manchester United are back up to second in the FA Women’s Championship after a 7-0 victory away at Leicester City WFC on Wednesday 13th February.
They led 2-0 at the break thanks to a quickfire brace by Ella Toone, her goals coming seconds apart around the quarter of an hour mark.
The visitors had a great chance to get a third from the penalty spot in stoppage-time but Katie Zelem’s strike was well saved by Demi Lambourne.
The closest to a goal for a record home crowd of 824 was a Melissa Johnson effort from outside the box but Siobhan Chamberlain was behind it.
The visitors took only 8 second-half minutes to effectively wrap up the points with two more goals, with half-time substitute Charlie Devlin netting from close range and then Alex Greenwood firing home a free kick.
Toone completed her hat-trick from the spot midway through the second period, after Greenwood’s shot at goal had been handled in the area.
Sophie Domingo seemed to have a great chance to pull one back but Chamberlain saved with her legs and the flag was up for offside anyway.
Shortly after it was 6-0, an attempted clearance going in off substitute Lauren James.
Toone had space to take aim from outside the box in the last couple of minutes and the ball flew into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the evening.
The result puts Casey Stoney’s side within five points of leaders Tottenham Hotspur and with two games still in hand.
