Fixtures for the eight-team FAI Continental Tyres Women’s National League were released today, with reigning champions Wexford Youths at home against former winners Shelbourne on the opening day.
Republic of Ireland stars Karen Duggan, Claire Walsh and Aine O’Gorman have all moved from UCD Waves to Peamount United in the close season and they won’t have to wait long before facing their former club, with the two teams set to play each other on 11th March, reports wnl.fai.ie.
Limerick will begin their debut WNL campaign at home to Kilkenny United whilst Galway will host Cork City WFC.
UCD Waves are set to play their home fixtures at the UCD Bowl this season whilst Shelbourne will play the majority of their home matches at Tolka Park.
Limerick’s home venue is set to be confirmed ahead of the start of the season.
FAI Competition Director Fran Gavin said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Limerick FC into the Continental Tyres Women’s National League.
“We’ve been in discussions with the club for several months and they presented to the Women’s National League committee, and the committee made the decision to accept Limerick into the league.
“This is a huge step forward for Women’s Football in Limerick and Munster. It is imperative that we continue to grow the Women’s National League which has gone from strength to strength over recent seasons, with the amount of WNL players in our national team continuing to increase.
