Watford Ladies Sign Welsh International Defender

Experienced former AFC Wimbledon, Chelsea, Fulham, Millwall and Reading defender Kylie McCarthy (née Davies) joins Watford.

She has also had two seasons in the USA W-League with Richmond Kickers, played for GB Universities, gained England caps up to U-23 level, before committing to Wales, with whom she has made many appearances.

Hornets’ Head Coach Keith Boanas told watford.fawsl.com: “I have actually known Kylie for well over a decade now. I came close to signing her as young talent when I was at Charlton, but logistically and career wise she chose Fulham – a club that were about to turn professional.”

“I have followed her career though to Chelsea, where she played for a previous assistant Matt Beard, and Millwall where she played for Alberto Kurti my current Assistant, as well as a spell in WSL1 with Reading.

“She’s a great reader of the game and comfortable in the back four or as a defensive midfielder, with a calmness under pressure that will breed confidence into those around her. She will be training hard with us to reach peak fitness levels, following the birth of her first child. She’s back in training though and we’re looking forward to seeing her in a Watford shirt early in the season.”
