Arsenal players held the shirt of goalkeeper Anneke Borbe during their Women’s Champions Cup trophy presentation, after she was injured during the final.

What happened to Arsenal goalkeeper Anneke Borbe

Arsenal goalkeeper Anneke Borbe suffered a nasty collision with Arsenal teammate Lotte Wubben-Moy during the final moments of extra time, during their 3-2 win over Corinthians.

The 25-year-old was left in a heap on the floor after the defender, who scored Arsenal’s second goal, caught the goalkeeper on the head as they both went for the ball.

Borbe, a summer signing after her contract at VfL Wolfsburg expired, was carried off on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask.

There was a lengthy stoppage before she was replaced by Daphne van Domselaar in the 11th minute of stoppage time during the second half of extra time.

Borbe was not present during Arsenal’s trophy presentation as she was taken to a nearby hospital for checks.

After their victory, Arsenal players brought Borbe’s shirt to their trophy presentation.

Van Domselaar was seen wearing Borbe’s shirt during the presentation. Later, she was pictured holding Borbe’s shirt alongside Chloe Kelly for a squad photo with the Women’s Champions Cup trophy.

Anneke Borbe update

Borbe was taken to the hospital for precautionary checks after her nasty collision with Wubben-Moy.

As reported by the BBC, Borbe was later discharged from and spent the night at home after receiving the all-clear.

It remains to be seen whether Borbe will be available to play in Arsenal’s must-win WSL clash with Manchester City this weekend.

Arsenal go into the game 13 points behind City, but with a game in hand.

If she is not cleared, it could mean that Van Domselaar makes her first start since a 2-1 win over Real Madrid on November 19th.

Van Domselaar has only recently returned to fitness from injury.

What did Wubben-Moy say about Borbe’s injury?

Speaking after her collision with Borbe, Wubben-Moy told Sky Sports: “Who would be a goalkeeper?

“It takes so much bravery to do that in the dying minutes and she arguably saved us the game. Everyone knows that health comes first and we’ll be going in to see her [Anneke Borbe] before we celebrate to see she’s okay. A trooper.”

Renee Slegers also revealed that Borbe’s mum was in attendance at the game. During her post-match interview, she also described the Women’s Champions Cup as a special trophy for Arsenal.

She said: “Her mum was here to support. I spoke to her mum briefly. Nekki has been so good for us, she’s been fantastic, so it’s unfortunate for her, the situation, and we are all hoping that she is going to be alright.”

Meanwhile, reports on Monday morning have linked Katie McCabe with an Arsenal exit this summer. McCabe, who has been with Arsenal for more than a decade, is reportedly not being offered a new deal and has been linked with a move to the NWSL.
