Manchester United’s first ever home game in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League ended in a narrow 1-0 loss to defending champions Arsenal.

Danielle van de Donk came off the bench to clinch all three points for the Gunners in the penultimate minute.

The hosts began well with Ella Toone threatening but unable to direct a Jess Sigsworth cross goalward before putting a long-range effort over the top.

The Gunners responded as from a Katie McCabe delivery Vivianne Miedema forced an incredible double-save by Mary Earps, then before the break Beth Mead clipped the crossbar from a corner.

Manuela Zinsberger manage to keep out a Jane Ross shot before the action switched to the other end amd Earps was called upon to again make consecutive saves, this time to twice thwart Kim Little.

Mead missed a clear chance and Miedema hit the post but when a shot by Little rebounded back to Van de Donk, she made no mistake from 8 yards out.
