Chelsea Women have some big decisions to make, with seven key players on expiring contracts, and here SheKicks gives our verdict on whether they will stay or go.

Chelsea players on expiring contracts: Should they stay or go?

Aggie Beever-Jones – Stay

The England international might be out of form but it would be a surprise to see Chelsea not sign her up to a new contract.

Her contract expires this summer but Chelsea do hold the option of a one-year extension.

Beever-Jones scored in Chelsea’s opening four WSL games this season, but has not found the back of the net since.

Her energy, movement and versatility to play across the Chelsea attacking line makes it a no-brainer for the Blues to offer a new contract.

Beever-Jones has hit double digits for Chelsea in all competitions over the past two seasons, and it would be a surprise if she doesn’t return to form soon.

Millie Bright – Leave

This one remains tough to call as Millie Bright remains an undeniable leader for Chelsea and is one of the WSL’s strongest defenders.

Like Beever-Jones, her contract also has the option of extending for a further year.

However, Bright has been at Chelsea for a decade and is turning 33 this summer. Bright was benched before the winter break in Champions League games with Barcelona and St. Polten, and was hooked off at half-time during a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

This coincided with Naomi Girma’s return to fitness. Bright has started recent games, but will face extra competition when Nathalie Bjorn returns from the injury which has kept her out since mid-December.

It would be no surprise to see Chelsea strengthen their defence further this summer, and after 10 years at Chelsea, there is the chance that Bright will fancy a change of scenery.

Lucy Bronze – Stay

Lucy Bronze, like Bright, is still one of the best defenders in the WSL, despite being in the latter years of her career.

The 34-year-old is a versatile option for Chelsea who can play at right-back or centre-back.

She has already gained experience abroad in Barcelona and Lyon, so there seems little reason for her to leave Chelsea.

Chelsea will want to keep some experience in the squad, as Chelsea chase more honours and manage squad transition, with younger players coming into the squad.

Hannah Hampton – Stay

Arguably, the best goalkeeper in the world in 2025, helping Chelsea win a domestic treble and inspiring England to glory at Euro 2025.

Hampton won a host of awards in a career-best year, including the Yachine Trophy at the Ballon d’Or awards.

Her distribution, composure and shot-stopping mean she should be central to the club’s plans next season

Sam Kerr – Stay

Just ahead of Bright, Sam Kerr is perhaps the most difficult call to make in terms of players on expiring contracts at Chelsea.

She has seen limited game time this season as she has been eased back into contention following her ACL injury.

Despite this, she is Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions with nine goals this term. Albeit, only two of those have come in the WSL.

It would be no surprise to see Kerr return to the National Women’s Soccer League or the A-League in Australia.

However, SheKicks predicts the 32-year-old will stay at Chelsea, even if it is for just one more season.

Catarina Macario – Leave

Catarina Macario looks almost certain to leave Chelsea amid interest from Bay FC and other NWSL sides.

Her agent, Alan Naigeon, told the San Francisco Chronicle that talks with Bay FC are in “preliminary phases”.

Macario is free to speak to clubs outside the Women’s Super League, now she is in the final six months of her deal.

With Macario not necessarily a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea might not fight to hard to keep the US international.

Guru Reiten – Leave

Guru Reiten, who has 199 appearances for Chelsea, is another US international who could leave the Blues this summer.

Recent consistency and injuries have been issues for Reiten, who has started just three times in the WSL this season.

With Chelsea increasingly looking to refresh attacking options, it feels like this is her moment to seek a new challenge.

Will Chelsea sign anyone this month?

Chelsea have been the quietest side during the January transfer window, with no new additions.

There had been reports that the Blues were considering a move for USA international Trinity Rodman.

However, the hope of signing Rodman ended when she signed a new Washington Spirit deal.

Unless there’s any late twist in the January transfer window, it looks unlikely Chelsea will make any signings.

However, they could be in for a busy summer, especially since they look likely to lose their grasp of the WSL title to Manchester City.
