What happened to Laura Woods? ITV presenter releases statement after on-air collapse

There was a scary moment during the England vs Ghana broadcast on Tuesday night, as ITV presenter Laura Woods collapsed pitchside during pre-match analysis.

Woods has since released a statement ensuring that she is okay after being checked over by doctors at the stadium.

England went on to win against Ghana thanks to goals from Lucia Kendall and Alessia Russo.

What happened to Laura Woods?

While presenting England’s pre-match show for ITV, viewers witnessed a scary moment for Laura Woods.

The experienced presenter collapsed live on the broadcast with co-hosts Ian Wright and Anita Asante preventing the 38-year-old from hitting the ground.

ITV reacted quick to cut the cameras and send the show to a commercial break while they helped Woods, who is one of the highest paid and most respected presenters in football.

Katie Shanahan came out to present after the break and she announced that Woods had ben ‘taken ill’ behind the scenes.

“‘As you have probably noticed we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she’s just been taken ill but she’s in very good hands so I’m stepping in at late notice,” Shanahan said.

Laura Woods releases statement

There was good news shortly after the game concluded, with Woods taking to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that she was okay after receiving treatment.

“Gosh that was a bit weird. Sorry to worry everyone, I’m OK. The wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it’s probably a virus – just need a bit of rest and hydration.” Woods wrote.

“I’m really embarrassed that happened on TV but a big thank you to my colleagues at ITV who have really looked after me tonight. And to Wrighty and Neets for catching me.”

It is unlikely that Woods will be seen on TV for a brief period now as she recovers from the scare.

The presenter also works for TNT on Champions League games and they, along with plenty of fans, sent their regards to Woods following her fall.

Woods continues to show just how important women in football are and as one of the best presenters in the game she is sure to bounce back from her health scare in no time at all.
