Liverpool provide injury update on Scottish international Sam Kerr

Liverpool finally enjoyed some success at the weekend with a 4-1 win over Sheffield United and the result was only tarnished by the injury to Sam Kerr.

The midfielder wasn’t selected for the Cup match and it was revealed after the game that she has picked up a knock.

Liverpool were still able to top their Subway League Cup group without Kerr to advance to the quarter finals.

Sam Kerr injury update

It seemed that Sam Kerr had been dropped for Liverpool on Sunday but as one of their brightest stars it came as a surprise to not see her on the team sheet – especially in a must win cup game.

The Reds released a statement on Monday afternoon explaining Kerr’s absence due to injury.

Liverpool’s club website said: “Sam Kerr is set for a spell on the sidelines and will begin rehabilitation after sustaining a back injury.”

The 26-year-old was on loan with Liverpool last season but made her move permanent in summer after a successful spell.

Kerr has featured in all of Liverpool’s WSL games this season but that run looks set to come to an end now after suffering a back injury.
The midfielder isn’t just missing out on time with Liverpool though with the international break upon us.

Kerr made her international debut for Scotland in 2020 and has been a regular fixture in the team ever since.

Although she was selected for the final Scotland team this year, Kerr will now remain in Liverpool as she starts her rehabilitation.

What next for Sam Kerr?

There has been no timeline given by Liverpool on Sam Kerr’s return to action.

Gareth Taylor will be hoping that his midfielder isn’t unavailable for too long as we approach a busy fixture schedule over Christmas.

Liverpool face Arsenal on their return to domestic football at the start of December with a tricky clash against Aston Villa immediately after.

After eight WSL games Liverpool are still bottom of the league and they are staring down the barrel at relegation already.
