Jocelyn Precheur: London City Lionesses working towards fulfilling potential

London City Lionesses head coach Jocelyn Precheur says it’s just a matter of time until his team full of superstars reach their sky-high potential.

And he and his staff are working tirelessly to find out more about the squad – especially the new acquisitions – to ensure they’re settled and happy.

It all means they go into their first Women’s Super League home match of the season – against Manchester United on Sunday – on a high.

“We have an individual approach to know more about the player individually speaking but also about the woman behind the player,” Precheur told SheKicks.net.

“The more I know about the player, her expectation, where she came from, her stories, the more I can create an environment adapted for her where she can express herself.

“I spend a lot of time at the moment talking individually with the full squad – it’s the same for my staff. I think we are in a good dynamic at the moment, we have worked very well this week on pitch, I’m very satisfied with what I saw during the training sessions.

“Let’s see if we have a good transfer on Sunday, if we keep this dynamic against United, even if we know it will be tough.”

Jocelyn Precheur: The task will be hard

Precheur reported no additional fitness concerns ahead of the weekend – and said that it is “the goal” to have record signing Grace Geyoro involved if possible.

And he said that he felt “lucky” to have so many big-name signings in his squad – including Danielle van de Donk, Alana Kennedy and Kosovare Asllani – and that they would be going out for all three points in front of their home fans.

“We will go on the pitch to win. Of course, we know the game will be very, very tough – we are playing a team from the top four – so of course the task is very difficult, but if we don’t believe in ourselves, we don’t believe there’s a chance we have to win this game, I would say what is the point of playing the game?

“We know the task will be hard but we want first to improve, to choose the best version of the team at the moment, especially in front of our fans for the first game at home, and we will for sure fight with everything we’ve got to make this game hard and to use the chance, even if it seems small at the moment, who knows? We will play 100 per cent and try to have a good result on Sunday.”

London City Lionesses lost their first match of the season 4-1 at the hands of UEFA Women’s Champions League holders Arsenal,  but Precheur says his team are ready to bounce back.

“It’s a very exciting game when you have the opportunity to play such a great opponent – at home, by the way, so I would say even more exciting, if it’s possible to be even more excited than I was before against Arsenal: more motivated, if possible, but we play in WSL to play in these type of games.

“I can feel that for the girls it’s exactly the same.”
