Murray Wins FA WSL2 Player of the Month (November)

Doncaster Rovers Belles’ Scotland international Christie Murray has been selected as the FA WSL 2 Player of the Month for November and it was a fitting way to part with the club.

Murray was a key player in extending her team’s lead at the top of the FA WSL 2 table in November, scoring a diving header in an important win over Tottenham Hotspur, as well as netting another against FA WSL 1 side Birmingham City in a narrow FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup defeat.

Murray fought off some tough competition in a shortlist including last month’s FA WSL 2 Player of the Month winner, Ashlee Hincks, and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Kirsty Barton. Hincks continued to lead from the front as she helped Millwall come from behind to defeat London Bees with two vital goals in a seven goal thriller whilst Barton put in a number of standout performances, including a match-winning goal against Sheffield, to keep Brighton one point off the top of FA WSL 2.

The FA WSL Player of the Month award celebrates the best players in FA WSL 1, FA WSL 2 and FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup. Each month, three players will be shortlisted based on their performances before a media panel selects a winner for each league.

Presented with the FA WSL 2 Player of the Month award, Christie Murray said: “It is great to win this award because as an attacking player I feel that my role in the team is to make an impact. Whether that be creating chances for my teammates, doing work off the ball or scoring goals to help us win games and I feel like I’ve done that.”

And on Wednesday of last week, the likeable midfielder tweeted that she would be leaving the Belles after a happy 18 months with the club:
