Yeovil Town’s Charlotte Haynes was today announced as The SSE Women’s FA Cup Player of the Round after an outstanding performance in Yeovil’s fourth round away trip to fellow WSL 2 side Bristol City.
Yeovil say that she showing the form that won her a call up to the England U-19 squad last summer, the young keeper put in a superb all round display. In the first half Haynes saved smartly from a fierce Bristol effort strike before racing off her line to bravely deny Bristol striker Millie Farrow.
Haynes continued to shine in the second half, saving brilliantly from a well hit Bristol volley and commanding her penalty area as Bristol threatened to break the deadlock. With both keepers playing well, the game remained goalless in normal time and went to penalties.
The shoot-out was a nervous affair with both teams missing spot kicks before Haynes got down quickly to deny Grace McCatty. Yeovil then converted to take the lead and Haynes was left to complete the job, diving full length to her right to touch Rosella Ayane’s spot kick onto the post and propel Yeovil into the Fifth Round of the competition and a tie against Sunderland AFC Ladies this weekend.
The young keeper was delighted with the award and believes The SSE Women’s FA Cup represents a great chance for Yeovil to shine:
‘It’s great to receive the award, winning on penalties was an amazing feeling but it was really a team effort, all the girls played brilliantly. Hopefully we can continue our run in the competition because it’s an excellent opportunity for us to show what we can do.”
