#WU17EURO Qual Rd: Scotland off to winning start

Scotland kicked off their UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship qualifiers with a 2-1 win over Lithuania at the Kazimierz Deyna Stadium in Gdańsk on Thursday morning.

They made the best of starts when Kathleen McGovern converted a penalty just 2 minutes in after being fouled by goalkeeper Meda Šeškutė.

Aisha Maughan doubled the lead in the 21st minute from Philippa McCallum’s corner and although the lead was halved, Rimantė Jonušaitė’s reply came deep into stoppage-time at the end of the match.

Scotland next play Slovakia on Sunday morning, before finishing against group hosts Poland on Wednesday 10th October.

The top two sides in every group, plus the four third-placed teams with the best record against the top two in their section, go into the elite round draw on 23 November 2018.
