The WSL2 player of the month nominees have been confirmed, with Newcastle’s Morgan Gautrat leading the four contenders for this month’s award.
Although we haven’t reached the end of October yet, with the international break filling out the rest of the month the nominees have been announced early.
WSL2 Player of the Month nominees
Jodie Hutton (Charlton)
Charlton are absolutely flying in the Championship and October was a great month for the Addicks.
A draw against Sheffield United and a comfortable win over Sunderland sent Charlton top of the league as they hunt down promotion to the WSL.
Jodie Hutton spearheaded Charlton’s October and as a result she is leading the way for player of the month.
Charlton scored three goals in their two games this month and all of them came courtesy of their star full-back.
Hutton kicked off her month with a brace against Sunderland and her late equaliser against Sheffield United saved Charlton from dropping down the table.
We are also pleased to announce that Jodie Hutton’s Goal vs Sheffield United has been shortlisted for the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 October’s goal of the month award ❤️
Voting is now open and will end on Wednesday, October 23rd at 10am 🗳️

The 24-year-old scored a stunning free kick against the Blades which has also been nominated for WSL2 goal of the month.
Catriona Sheppard (Durham)
Although Durham kept just one clean sheet out of two in October, Catriona Sheppard has been nominated for player of the month following her outstanding game against Nottingham Forest.
The goalkeeper was formidable in her player of the match performance last weekend.
Forest bombarded the Durham goal with shots throughout the game but Sheppard was able to block everything that was put in front of her.
The 25-year-old made a formidable seven saves against Forest. There was no surprise after the game when Sheppard was awarded her first player of the match this season.
While she was great in October, a disappointing 2-1 loss to Bristol City could prevent the Durham number one from winning player of the month.
Jess Simpson (Southampton)
Southampton enjoyed a perfect October with two games played and six points acquired in the league.
Jess Simpson is an outlier of the nominees for this month’s award, as she is the only one of the four candidates to not be named player of the match in either of her two games.
The full-back has enjoyed her best month of the campaign to date though and she shone in Southampton’s 5-2 win over local rivals Portsmouth.
Simpson was unstoppable going forward against Pompey. The defender grabbed an assist as well as her first goal of the season in the win.
The exciting 20-year-old stunned with her first goal of the year, as Simpson netted an unlikely Olimpico against Portsmouth.

Simpson already has four assists in the league this year and she is asserting herself as one of the best attacking defenders in the Championship.
Morgan Gautrat (Newcastle)
Newcastle playmaker Morgan Gautrat is the final nominee for October’s player of the month.
The Magpies drew both of their games this month with the same scoreline, but Gautrat still impressed in the 2-2 draws.
Gautrat had nine key passes across her two October games and she was rewarded for all of her hard work with an assist against Crystal Palace.
The midfielder also netted her first goal for Newcastle since signing on loan from Orlando Pride in the summer.
With two player of the match worthy games in October, it is hard to overlook the Newcastle star’s impressive month and she is a firm contender to take home her first player of the month award in England.
