Jordan Nobbs leads the way in WSL2 player of the month nominees

Jordan Nobbs is unlikely to add to her WSL goal tally this season after signing for second-tier Newcastle this summer

The WSL2 December player of the month nominees are out and Jordan Nobbs is leading the way after an exceptional end to the year with Newcastle.

WSL2 December Player of the month nominees

  • Jordan Nobbs
  • Emily Syme
  • Kirsty Howat
  • Aimee Claypole

Jordan Nobbs

The nominees for December’s award are led by Jordan Nobbs.

Nobbs was once the record appearance holder in the WSL but these days she plays for Newcastle in the women’s Championship.

Despite only playing on Tyneside for six months, Nobbs has already become a fan favourite in the north.

Nobbs rounded off her 2025 with back to back player of the match performances for Newcastle.

The 33-year-old netted her first goal for Newcastle in a 1-0 win against Southampton and she quickly followed up with a second.

Another early goal from the midfielder came just one weekend later. With the Championship taking a hiatus for the winter break towards the end of December, Newcastle played just two games in the final month of 2025.

With two strong performances backed up by goals to end the year, Nobbs is now a leading contender to be crowned player of the month.

Emily Syme

Much like Nobbs, Bristol City’s Emily Syme enjoyed an exceptional December to close out 2025.

The winger was unstoppable in her team’s 4-0 crushing over Sheffield United at the start of the month.

After scoring two goals – her third and fourth of the season respectively – Syme was close to a perfect rating against the Blades.

However her performance dropped significantly late on, with the Robins star dismissed after picking up a second yellow card.

Syme returned to action for Bristol City in their next game with no ban for her red card and once again she found herself on the scoresheet.

Despite her three goals, a red card and a loss in December significantly hampered Syme’s chances of picking up December player of the month over the likes of Nobbs.

Kirsty Howat

Following a glowing career in Scotland, Kirsty Howat joined Crystal Palace in summer last year.

The 28-year-old has been a revelation since joining the Eagles and she has already asserted herself as one of the best players in WSL2.

Howat netted four goals in her first nine league games prior to December and she concluded the year with another two impressive performances.

Against Birmingham there was no goals for the winger, but in an impressive 3-0 win for Palace everyone showed up to continue the team’s winning run.

Despite only playing an hour in her final game of the year, Howat netted her fifth league goal of the season in a five goal thriller against Bristol City.

The Scottish star also found the back of the net twice in her final international game of 2025 which came at the start of December.

Aimee Claypole

The final star up for WSL2 player of the month is Aimee Claypole.

Nottingham Forest’s striker was phenomenal in December and she scored four goals in just three games.

Goals against Sunderland and Charlton took Claypole’s tally up to three league goals for the season.

The exciting 20-year-old also secured a brace against Newcastle in the FA Cup to boost her profile during a breakout year.

If Claypole continues to impress as she did in 2025, this year could be the year that she makes the step up to the top flight with plenty of WSL clubs taking note of the forward.
