WSL2 is continuing to grow in popularity alongside the first division and last year was a landmark campaign.
Last season saw a 108% increase in average attendances at WSL2 games to 2,086 per match.
There was also a record set last year for most fans in attendance at one Championship game. 38,502 supporters watched Newcastle vs Sunderland at St James’ Park in March.
With the league expanding to 14 teams from next year there is the possibility of three teams getting promoted this season.
Added opportunities this season could boost the profile of the Championship even more.
Women’s football continuing to grow
England’s success at the Euros in summer is sure to only boost the popularity of women’s football.
The women’s game is continuing to boom with each year that passes and this season is expected to break records again.
Arsenal are once again breaking ground in the WSL after they announced they would play every home game at the Emirates Stadium going forward from this season.
The Gunners had 38,000 fans in attendance at their season opener against the London City Lionesses.
Everton also moved to a bigger ground, with the Toffees taking over Goodison Park.
The historic ground was set to be destroyed before the women’s team saved it by moving in.
While there is still a long way to go in developing women’s football, the game has come on leaps and bounds in the past few years and should only improve going forward.
