WSL Development Cup Final Preview

Arsenal Res v Sheffield FC Res (Sutton Coldfield Town FC, 2pm)

Arsenal sealed the Southern Division title in midweek with a 5-0 win over Millwall Lionesses, while Sheffield FC finished a very creditable second to Sunderland in their Northern Division debut campaign.

Sheffield FC’s first ever experience of the League Cup competition was a 5-0 win over Notts County in the Preliminary Round way back on October 4th, when Ella Hartley scored four times.

Jodie Michalska got a brace as they next won 5-3 against Birmingham City, while 2014-15 beaten semi-finalists Arsenal ran out 3-1 winners at Liverpool, where all their goals came in a seven-minute second half spell.

Evie Clarke got a couple as Arsenal won 4-1 at Manchester City in the quarter-finals, while Sheffield FC came from 2-0 down at Reading to go through 4-2, Chloe Dixon getting on their scoresheet twice.

Both sides won away in the semis, Arsenal’s Clarke with a five-goal haul in a 7-1 defeat of Durham, Sheffield FC progressed past Sunderland 3-1, with two from Kenedy Owen and one by substitute Ellie Wilkinson.
