Women’s Regional Leagues Round-Up: Four leaders have to settle for draws

While Oughtibridge War Memorial went top, four other Women’s Regional League leaders were pegged back in draws.

EASTERN – Hatters hold leaders

Premier – Luton Town held leaders Wymondham Town 1-1 with a goal from Olivia Abraham, second-placed Royston Town had to battle to beat Bowers & Pitsea 4-3 with a hat-trick by Emma Slater. St Ives Town drew 1-1 with third-placed Kings Lynn Town, Haringey Borough defeated AFC Dunstable 9-1.

I North – Cambridge City DS were 4-2 winners at Wootton Blue Cross Lionesses, Whittlesey Athletic and Newmarket Town drew 3-3.

1 South – Leigh Ramblers won 5-1 at East Bergholt United, AFC Sudbury beat Wodson Park 4-0 and Herts Vipers edged Barking 4-3 with Rachel Wall’s second goal of the game.

League Cup – Biggleswade United beat Billericay Town DS 5-3 after extra-time.

EAST MIDLANDS – Oughtibridge lead on goal-difference

Premier – Oughtibridge WM’s 7-1 result at Loughborough Students put them top on goal-difference from Mansfield Town, who were held at home by Notts County. Rotherham United’s Helen Lynskey scored five (including four in as many minutes) and Amy Pollock four in an 11-0 win at Leicester City Ladies, Lincoln United sunk Rise Park 7-0 with five by Abigail Murrell.

1 South – Derby County Academy are back in pole position after a 9-1 scoreline against Oadby & Wigston as Marli Rhodes-Andrews netted a treble. Coalville Town drew 2-2 with Peterborough United Reserves, Kettering Town had a narrow 1-0 win over lowly Loughborough Foxes Vixens.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Dartford draw level

Premier – Dartford went level on points with leaders Ashford Town (Middx) with a 4-2 victory at Worthing, where they trailed at the break and Emily Vaughan scored two of their goals. New London Lionesses had a narrow 2-1 win over Saltdean United, Fulham thrashed Millwall Lionesses 9-1 as Georgia Heasman and Helen Ogle each hit a hat-trick, Whyteleafe defeated Denham United 4-1.

League Cup – Welling United won 3-2 after extra-time at Herne Bay, Grace Laverick completing her hat-trick moments before the end. Hackney’s Amy Nicholson got both goals of the tie at Maidstone United, Bexhill United went through by the same score at Sport London E Benfica, while there were walkovers for Brentford and Sutton United against Victoire and Walton Casuals respectively.

NORTH EAST – Dodds double puts Blyth Town top

Premier – York City stayed well clear at the top when hitting Hartlepool United 6-1, second-placed Redcar Town won 4-2 at Wakefield Trinity thanks to Mary Corbyn’s late double, while Wallsend BC won 4-3 over Ossett United with their substitute Chloe Wilkinson among the goals.

1 North – Blyth Town went from third to first with a 2-1 win at Bishop Auckland, where Laura Dodds got both their goals.

1 South – Hull United gained ground on leaders York RI with a 3-0 win over Wakefield Trinity U-23s, aided by an Amy Ward brace. Altofts were held 3-3 at home by Farsley Celtic Juniors, for whom Sarah Lawn found the net twice.

NORTH WEST – Crewe tie with Tranmere

Premier – Second-placed Tranmere Rovers were held 1-1 at home by Crewe Alexandra, West Didsbury & Chorlton had a similar result with Cheadle Town Stingers. Salford City Lionesses went fourth with a 5-1 defeat of Mossley Hill Athletic, elsewhere it ended AFC Darwen 4-2 Morecambe and Wigan Athletic 1-7 Fleetwood Town Wrens.

1 North – Blackpool beat Preston North End 3-0 to stay in pole position ahead of Blackburn CSC, 2-0 winners over Penwortham Town. Workington Reds put six past Sir Tom Finney, Penrith came away from Carlisle United wit a 5-2 result, Chorley DS won 3-0 at Morecambe Reserves, Haslingden also victorious on the road 2-1 at Accrington Stanley.

1 South – Chester were 4-0 winners at Wythenshawe Amateurs, Curzon Ashton went one better at Runcorn Linnets to rise to second. Northwich Vixens only managed a narrow 1-0 win over struggling Altrincham, Didsbury managed a 3-3 tie at Mersey Valley.

SOUTHERN – Abingdon Town hold Moneyfields

Premier – Abingdon Town became only the second side to take points off Moneyfields after a 1-1 draw, Abingdon United gaining ground with nine goals at Woodley United. Eastleigh won 4-0 at Ascot United with braces by Catherine Browning and Gabrielle Ewing, Wycombe Wanderers won 2-1 against Winchester City Flyers with Chante Inniss getting their crucial second goal.

Division 1 – A dramatic first half saw AFC Bournemouth DS 5-3 up against Woking on the way to a 9-3 scoreline, aided by Hannah Hughes’ four-goal haul. Bournemouth Sports ran out 7-1 winners at Milton United, New Milton Town are fourth following a 3-1 defeat of Chichester City and Abbey Rangers are off the mark with a Heather Heade  double in the 2-1 win over Eversley & California.

SOUTH WEST – Gas Girls’ perfect start ended in derby

Premier – Sherborne Town won 3-0 at Forest Green Rovers where Gemma Mountain netted twice, to remain four points ahead of Ilminster Town, 4 -1 winners over Royal Wootton Bassett Town. AFC St Austell sub Emily Clemes scored in a 2-2 home draw with Torquay United, Bishops Lydeard beat Bideford 6-2 helped by a Holly Miller hat-trick, Samantha Metters got four as Marine Academy Plymouth won the goalfest with Middlezoy Rovers 7-5.

1 East – Leaders Keynsham Town Reserves saw off Chipping Sodbury Town 3-2 in midweek, Warminster Town drew 2-2 with Paulton Rovers.

1 North – Bristol Ladies Union prevented Bristol Rovers making it eleven wins in a row when holding them 2-2 away from home. Frampton Rangers netted four times against Weston Super Mare with two from Lucie Hulin, Almondsbury’s Amy Jefferies got a couple in the 4-0 win at Downend Flyers, Oldland Abbotonians won 3-1 at Weston Mendip to get off the bottom.

1 West – Saltash United’s first win came 4-0 at Liverton United, where Nicola Champion scored twice.

WEST MIDLANDS – Sutton level late at Lichfield

Premier – Lichfield City threatened to beat leaders Sutton Coldfield Town but Sophie Levick’s 79th-minute leveller forced a 2-2 tie. Crusaders are third after a 2-1 result against basement side City of Stoke, Worcester City won 3-1 at Redditch United, Tamworth’s Olivia Woolston scored three in a 5-2 success at Kidderminster Harriers, Coventry Sphinx and Coundon Court finished one apiece.

1 North – Walsall Wood scored four second-half goals for a 5-1 victory at Port Vale, Sandwell’s Rachel Green got the decider to win 2-1 at Walsall, Darlaston Town had a walkover against Wyrley.

1 South – Solihull Sporting stayed top with a 2-1 result at Knowle, Leamington Lions are second after a 3-0 victory at Sedgley & Gornal United. Kingfisher’s Katie Edwards scored twice in the latter stages for a 3-1 win over Westfields, Droitwich Spa got a rare points when holding Cookley Sports 1-1.
