Women’s Regional Leagues kick off in front of some larger crowds

Three of the eight Women’s Regional Leagues kicked off on Sunday, with some encouragingly larger crowds reported.

EASTERN – Bowers enjoy six-goal second-half

Premier – Stevenage’s Jodie Bellinger got their crucial third goal in a 3-2 win at AFC Sudbury, Haringey Borough edged Needham Market in a seven-goal thriller. Bedford got both goals at Harlow Town, Wroxham ran out 4-1 victors at Royston Town. Luton Town came out in top 5-2 over Kings Lynn Town, Bowers & Pitsea blew away Colney Heath 8-2 with a six-goal second-half salvo.

1 North – Haverhill Rovers hit hosts Fakenham Town 5-1, St Ives Town saw off AFC Dunstable 4-2, while Biggleswade United won with two first-half goals at Newmarket Town.

1 South – Lisa Ward scored twice as Lawford beat East Bergholt United 2-1, Wodson Park played out a goalless draw with Billericay Town Development.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Sutton get bumper crowd

Premier – Enfield Town’s seven against AFC Acorns featured four goals for Olivia Syson, New London Lionesses just got the better of Aylesford 3-2, as did Saltdean United against Millwall Lionesses. Sutton United were beaten 2-1 at home by Fulham but had 284 in attendance, Worthing won by the same score at Dartford, Ebbsfleet United’s 2-2 tie with Dulwich Hamlet was watched by 185 fans.

1 North – Dulwich Hamlet Reserves were 2-1 winners at Watford Development, Sport London E Benfica went one better at Whyteleafe. Brentford beat Clapton 2-1, Hackney sent Richmond Park to a 3-0 defeat and Dorking Wanderers put seven past Denham United.

1 South – Montpelier Villa got a winning start 5-2 at Maidstone United, a crowd of 156 saw Hastings United hit Eastbourne United for six. Steyning Town and Cray Valley shared six goals, Bromley won by the odd goal in five against Herne Bay. Welling United defeated Bexhill United 5-1, Ashford United had a 6-1 result over Newhaven.

NORTH WEST – Bury edge seven-goal thriller

Premier – Tranmere Rovers scored the only goal at Darwen, likewise West Didsbury & Chorlton at home to Mossley Hill. Curzon Ashton won 3-0 at Crewe Alexandra, Cheadle Town Stingers 3-2 away to Blackburn CSC and Salford City Lionesses 3-2 on their travels at Fleetwood Town Wrens.

1 North – Blackpool took the points 5-1 at Morecambe, Bolton Wanderers beat Penrith by the same result. Haslingden returned from Chorley Devs 4-1 victors, Penwortham had a 2-0 success at Workington Reds. Accrington Stanley tied 2-2 with Preston North End, Carlisle United and Sir Tom Finney ended up three apiece.

1 South – Bury sealed the points 4-3 at Runcorn Linnets, Poulton Vics picked up a 3-0 win at Wythenshawe Amateurs, Warrington Wolves won 2-1 at Alder. Northwich Vixens netted the sole goal in the game with Hindley, Chester found the net four times against Altrincham.
