Women’s International Challenge Cup wins for Lyon and Portland

Lyon beat Barcelona and Portland Thorns edged Houston Dash on penalties in the Women’s International Challenge Cup.

Fifteen-year-old Olivia Moultrie’s free kick sent Portland’s game to a shoot-out, Natalia Kuikka having begun the fightback after Shea Groom struck twice for the Dash.

Shelby Hogan pulled off three penalty saves before Simone Charley converted the decisive spot-kick.

Melvine Malard scored an 85th-minute winner for Lyon against Barcelona, who took their UWCL crown this summer.

Mariona Caldentey scored twice for Barca, with Amel Majri and Amandine Henry netting in-between.

The weekend’s positional matches are in the early hours of Sunday morning (UK time), with the Third Place Play-Off at 12:30am and Final at 3am, both live on DAZN YouTube.
