The prize money on offer at Women’s Euro 2025 has increased 156% from the offering at the same tournament three years ago.

Euro 2025 in Switzerland kicks off on July 2nd, with 16 trophies hoping to lift the trophy next month.

The Lionesses will hope to retain the trophy they won in 2022. However, they will face tough competition from the likes of Spain, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

Should Sarina Wiegman’s side win the tournament, the Lionesses will receive a bigger payday than they did in 2022.

According to the best UK betting sites, the Lionesses are second favourites to win the tournament behind Spain, at odds of 3/1.

What is the prize money pot at Women’s Euro 2025?

The total prize money pot at Women’s Euro 2025 is  €41 million (£34.9m).

This is more than double the €16m (£13.6m) received by national associations during the 2022 tournament.

It is also five times more than the €8m (£6.8m) pot that was shared out at Euro 2017.

This shows how much the stature of women’s football has increased over the last eight years.

How is the prize money distributed at Women’s Euro 2025?

All 16 teams at Women’s Euro 2025 will receive a fixed €1.8m (£1.5m) participation fee for qualifying for the tournament. This makes up 70% of the overall prize money handed out to nations competing at the tournament.

This compares to Women’s Euro 2022, where each team received just €600,000 (£511,000) as a participation fee.

The remaining 30% of the prize money will be made up of performance-related bonuses.

During the group stage, teams receive €50,000 (£42,600) for a draw and €100,000 (£85,200) for a win.

The eight teams who reach the quarter-final receive €550,000 each (£469,000), with an additional €700,000 (£596,000) for making the semi-final.

Whoever wins the tournament receives a final bonus of €1.75m (£1.49m), with the runner-up receiving €850,000 (£724,000).

The maximum prize money available for the tournament winners is €5.1m (£4.3m). The winner’s total for England at Euro 2022 was just over €2m (£1.7m).

How much of the prize money do players receive?

Players will receive a share of the prize money that is awarded to their respective country at Women’s Euro 2025.

UEFA states that national associations must allocate between 30% and 40% of their prize money to its players. They also advise that for nations who qualify for the knockout phase, players should be allocated between 35% and 40% of the total earnings.

The remainder of the pot covers expenses and initiatives aiding the development of women’s football in their respective countries.

How much money do clubs receive?

Payments are also allocated to compensate European clubs whose players are selected for international duty at Women’s Euro 2025.

As per UEFA, the total club benefits package will increase from €4.5m (£3.8m) in 2022 to €9m (£7.6m) this year.

The total amount of compensation paid is calculated according to the number of days that a player was released for the tournament. This includes ten preparation days, the total number of days the player participated in the tournament, and one travel day.

For each player, a club is compensated €657 (£559) per day. The minimum payment per player a club will receive is €13,140 (£11,193), which applies for players whose national team is eliminated in the group stage.

The maximum amount is €24,309 – which would be the case if a team from Group A advances to the final.

A pro rata payment will be handed out if a player is replaced during the tournament due to injury, or if the player is registered with a new club during the tournament.
