Wolverhampton Wanderers ran out 10-2 winners away to neighbours Sporting Khalsa on Wednesday night but were still one goal short of overtaking FAWNL Midlands Division 1 leaders West Brom.
The first half was a goal-fest of its own, with Wolves taking a 6-2 lead into the interval, having scored twice in the opening 4 minutes.
Jade Cross was denied by the Khalsa keeper but Billie Haynes slotted home the loose ball in the first minute, with Cross then getting the second herself.
A free kick from Natalie Widdal saw Cross score again and it was 4-0 after only 19 minutes when Jen Anslow crossed for Haynes to double her tally.
Khalsa replied with a fierce strike from 30 yards, only for Cross to then complete her hat-trick.
Although the hosts then pulled another back before the break, Charlotte Wilkie tapped in to make it 6-2.
Anslow struck from distance on the hour mark and a couple of minutes later Anna Morphet converted a penalty.
Lowri Walker netted from just outside the area and in the last minute Anslow set up Cross for her fourth of the night.
