Wolves One Win From Title
Wolves took over at the top of Midlands Division 1 with one game to go, after a 3-0 victory at winless Loughborough Students.
They were ahead by the break as Jenni Anslow’s free-kick came back of the wall for her to slot home.
Two goals were added in the space of three minutes just before the hour mark, as Hattie James headed in an Emma Cross delivery and then Anslow’s ball fell for Cross to smash into the bottom corner.
Sophie Glenny made a couple of fine saves to retain a 3-0 advantage and with Anna Perks coming off with a shoulder injury, Wolves had to see out the last 11 minutes with only 10 players.
With a two-point lead over Loughborough Foxes, a win at Leicester City Ladies on Sunday will see Wanderers promoted.
Magpies’ Two For Joy
Maidenhead United not only made sure of their safety in South West Division 1 but their 2-0 victory over St Nicholas lifted them above their visitors into seventh place.
The Magpies’ goals included a smart header and volley by Tina Brett that sent Rachel Panting clear to lift the ball over the onrushing keeper.
A brave effort from the visitors though, who only travelled with ten players and were down to nine later through injury but kept a clean sheet in the second half.
Basingstoke Win Locks Basement
Baingstoke Town went eighth on goal-dfference with a 5-0 defeat of Exeter City, thereby making certain of their place in the league next season.
The result sees Exeter, along with Shanklin, condemned to finish in the relegation places.
