Potters Share Points
Stoke City edged up one spot to fourth and West Brom rose a similar amount to seventh after the pair drew 1-1.
The Potters were ahead through an 14th-minute effort by Ashleigh Hayes, coming shortly after Leigh Dugmore went close for the Baggies and just before City keeper Tilly Hall prevented Emily Owen conceding an own-goal.
Hall then denied Olivia Mitcham before the break and Hazannah Parnell soon after the restart, with a Dugmore shot clipping the roof of the net on it’s way over.
Kelsey Richardson went close to doubling Stoke’s lead but Albion levelled on 66 minutes through Abi Cottam’s shot from just inside the corner of the 18 yard box.
Rachel Ball came off the bench for the hosts and nearly scored on two occasions, while the visitors had Dugmore dismissed in the last minute.
The two teams meet again in the return fixture on Sunday.
Coventry Close In On Second Spot
Coventry United went third in the Southern with a 3-1 win at Swindon Town that left their hosts three points above basement side QPR.
Maz Gauntlett was twice denied by the Robins’ keeper before breaking the deadlock with a half-volley early in the second half via a cross from Jade Brook.
It was 2-0 when Alison Hall delivered, Gauntlett headed on and Helen Dermody scrambled the ball home.
Hall hit the crossbar before later getting United’s third, afterwhich Town got a consolation.
Coventry still have two games in hand on second-placed Charlton Athletic and they are now only three points behind.
Wolves On Foxes’ Tails
Wolves turned up the heat on Midands leaders Loughborough Foxes by sneding them to a 3-2 loss.
Anna Perks gave them a perfect start with an 8th-minute headed opener from a Jen Anslow corner.
Charlotte Cooper equalised for the Foxes but Jode Bragan then bagged a brace for Wanderers in a 16-minute spell straddling the interval.
Loughborough got their second goal back with 13 minutes to go but were unable to stop Wolves gaining ground on them.
Feds Tracking Down Tigers
Liverpool Feds moved within three points of second-placed Hull City in Northern Division 1, after hitting relegated Tranmere Rovers for six.
Although it took 38 minutes for the first goal to arrive, the Feds then ran riot with four goals by half-time.
Abby Pope’s opener was uickly added to by Carla Lee, with Lynsey Longhurst netting at the second attempt after her header against the post and Helen Griffiths firing the fourth into the bottom corner.
Lee won and converted a penalty for 5-0 and although she was initially denied her hat-trick by a clearance off the line, she found the net from 30 yards out.
Rovers got a goal back late on after a counter-attack.
