Why has Charli Grant withdrawn from the final Australia international camp this year?

Australian international Charli Grant to join Spurs

Tottenham defender Charli Grant has withdrawn from the Australia squad ahead of the final international break of the year.

Charli Grant withdraws from Australia squad

Grant suffered an injury in training and made the decision to stay at home during the international break.

The 24-year-old was still in London as Tottenham prepare for their final League Cup group stage clash against Bristol City this weekend.

Both Spurs and Australia decided to take no precautions with the defender who complained about a knee problem following training on Thursday.

Grant has struggled to get into the Tottenham team this season but she remains ever-present in the Matildas setup.

The defender has predominantly been used by Spurs in League Cup games this year and was almost certainly set to start on Sunday.

Spurs should still advance to the knockouts in the cup without Grant as they are top of their group and need to beat the Robins, who are bottom, to qualify. The League Cup quarter final draw takes place on Tuesday, November 25th.

Grant will now start her rehabilitation in London with her team returning from the break in the WSL against Aston Villa.

Australia drama continues

Grant withdrawing from the squad isn’t the only drama for Australia in the international break.

Matildas superstar Mary Fowler has revealed that she was given bananas instead of flowers as leaving gift by a former teammate.

The Manchester City forward told all in her new autobiography with some upsetting details in the book.

Australia’s young player of the year misses out on the final international camp this year as she continues to recover from her ACL injury with a January return targeted.

The Matildas play two friendlies against New Zealand during the break to close out their year.
