Ashleigh Neville is one of Tottenham’s longest serving players, but the defender could be on the move in January according to reports.
Neville has played for Spurs since 2017 and after eight years at the club it seems her time to leave has finally come.
Why is Ashleigh Neville leaving Tottenham?
Tottenham have been the most active WSL team in the January transfer window so far.
Martin Ho’s team are currently fifth in the league, with just ten points separating them from Manchester City atop the table.
Spurs clearly aren’t happy with their current position and they have been very busy already this month.
With five signings in the past week alone, Tottenham are making their intent clear to all.
Signe Gaupset, Matilda Nilden, Hannah Wijk, Julie Blakstad and Maika Hamano are the new arrivals.
It is deals for Wijk and Blakstad that have turned heads for Tottenham fans. Both new players play predominantly as defenders.
We are delighted to announce the signing of Julie Blakstad following the expiration of her contract at Hammarby IF ✍️

The arrival of two new potential full-backs in January suggests that Spurs may be willing to let one of their longest-serving players depart the club this month.
Ashleigh Neville has been loyal to a fault since moving to North London in 2017. Neville has reached well over 150 appearances for Tottenham in the past eight years.
The defender was a key star during Tottenham’s promotion from the Championship in 2019.
At the start of 2025, she became the first Spurs Women player to reach 100 Women’s Super League appearances. Neville was also the first Tottenham player to win the WSL Player of the Month award (February 2022).
Who could sign Ashleigh Neville?
There are plenty of clubs vying for Neville’s signature before the transfer window closes.
It seems unlikely that the WSL veteran would leave England at 32-years-old and one club in particular has emerged as a leading candidate.
Leicester City are struggling in the the league but they are clear of relegation by six points before their first game of 2026.
The Foxes could use Neville’s vast experience in the top flight to help them secure survival.
It seems certain that Tottenham’s longest serving player will depart the club this month in the hunt for more game time, and she may get an emotional sendoff this weekend when Spurs face Neville’s future club, Leicester, on Sunday.
There isn’t yet a deal in place for Neville to move away from London, but the wheels are already in motion for a move to the Midlands.
