Who is new Liverpool Women signing Rafaela Borggrafe?

Liverpool Women sign Rafaela Borggrafe

Liverpool Women have added a new recruit with the signing of goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe.

The German joins the Reds after her contract with SC Freiburg came to an end at the end of last month.

Borggrafe, 25, spent more than a decade with Freiburg. She will compete against Rachael Laws and Faye Kirby in the goalkeeping ranks at Liverpool.

What Rafaela Borggrafe said after joining Liverpool Women

New Liverpool Women signing Rafaela Borggrafe said it ‘means a lot’ for her to join Women’s Super League side Liverpool.

“This is a big club with a big history and I want to be part of that – we never walk alone. I want to have fun playing football and [I] am so happy to now be a part of the Liverpool family.”

After 12 years at Freiburg, she said that joining Liverpool is the ‘best step’ for her to move on in her career.

“I’m happy – and a little bit sad to leave friends – but I want to get better and I think this is the best place for me to be here to work hard, get better and make the next big steps for my career.”

It has not yet been confirmed what number Borggrafe will wear at Liverpool for the 2025-26 campaign.

Who is new Liverpool signing Borggrafe?

Rafaela Borggrafe is a German goalkeeper who joins Liverpool after 12 years at SC Freiburg.

She arrived at the club in 2013 and advanced through the youth ranks before making her senior debut in 2021.

The 25-year-old became a regular at the club and started 19 of their 22 league matches last season.

Borgraffe was named as a standby goalkeeper for Germany for this summer’s Euro 2025.

After joining Liverpool, she will hope to make her Germany international debut in the near future.

Who else have Liverpool signed this summer?

Rafaela Borggrafe is Liverpool’s second signing of the summer transfer window.

She follows 20-year-old midfielder Kirsty Maclean who joined the club from Rangers last week.

Maclean was a regular at Rangers and previously won the PFA Scotland Women’s Young Player of the Year.

However, Liverpool’s summer has been more focused around outgoings than incomings.

Taylor Hinds left Liverpool at the end of her contract to return to Arsenal.

Liverpool also lost star player Olivia Smith, who became the first player in women’s football history to move for £1m, by also joining Arsenal.

The Merseyside club are still yet to appoint a manager for the upcoming 2025-26 WSL season.
